Kaolin is a type of clay found in nature. It can also be made in a laboratory. People use it to make medicine. Kaolin is used for mild-to-moderate diarrhea, severe diarrhea (dysentery), and cholera. Kaolin is sometimes applied to wounds to help stop bleeding. Kaolinite is a clay mineral, part of the group of industrial minerals with the chemical composition Al₂Si₂O₅(OH)₄. It is a layered silicate mineral, with one tetrahedral sheet of silica linked through oxygen atoms to one octahedral sheet of alumina octahedra.
