Giuseppe Fortunino Francesco Verdi was born on October 10, 1813 in Roncole di Busseto, in the province of Parma. His father, Carlo Verdi, was a landlord, while his mother worked as a spinner. Since he was a child he took music lessons from the organist of the village, practicing on a forgotten spinet given to him by his father. His musical studies continued in this inconclusive and unorthodox way until Antonio Barezzi, a businessman and musicophile from Busseto who was fond of the Verdi family and little Giuseppe, welcomed him into his home, paying him more regular and academic studies.
