Singapore is a city-state consisting of a main island and other minor islands, which lies at the southern end of the Malacca Peninsula and is separated from Malaysia by a narrow arm of the sea. The strategic position at the mouth of the Strait of Malacca has made Singapore one of the main commercial centers of Asia; given the small size of the territory and the high population, it is one of the most densely populated countries on the planet.
