George Washington, (Bridges Creek, February 22, 1732 - Mount Vernon, December 14, 1799) was an American politician and general. He was commander in chief of the Continental Army throughout the American War of Independence (1775-1783) and later became the first President of the United States of America (1789-1797). He is considered one of the great founding fathers of the nation, and his face is portrayed on Mount Rushmore along with that of Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt. He also served as President of the Convention for the Constitution in 1787.
