The giraffe (Giraffa Brisson, 1762) is a genus of African artiodactyl mammal to which four species belong; it is the tallest living terrestrial animal, as well as the largest ruminant. Its most striking features are its extremely long neck and legs, its hornline-like bones and the peculiar colouring of its coat. It is classified within the family of Giraffids, along with its only close relative to date, the okapi.
